Dated 3/18/03. I had a moment of panic when I read the reptiles line, so I looked it up, which I probably did when I wrote this twenty years ago. I thought there might be a chance that geckos are amphibians. They aren’t. And even though alligators spend of their time in water, they’re not amphibians either. Reptiles have scales and dry skin, so alligators are obviously reptiles. Although they’re tiny and hard to see, geckos have scales too.

You can see that my line work was getting better. It’s tricky to get a consistent bold line on those curves. I had good pens in a variety of widths, but I still needed to double up on some lines. I was a little nervous about using a pen that was too wide.

I love those dumb little helmets.
