Dated 4/4/03. This is the first appearance of Abstract Gator, one of my favorite creations. I couldn’t tell you what inspired it other than a general sense of playfulness and artistic curiosity. Abstract Gator was just really fun to draw. It definitely has a design and a look, but I didn’t have to be as exacting as I did with Astro Gator and Astro Gecko. Part of the fun was rearranging the features of Abstract Gator from different angles, as you’ll see in the future.
The arrival of Abstract Gator marks a turning point in the strip. In addition to making the art more interesting to look at, it adds a fun sense of adventure that I was always chasing.
