Astro Gator Number 31
Dated 05/08/03. Is one of Astro Gator’s siblings involved in the attempts to kill him?! It seems possible.
I’ve been meaning to address the one aspect of Astro Gator that never really improved, and that is the lettering. My handwriting has always been pretty bad, and I didn’t try very hard to make it neat, straight, or uniform. I did pencil in most of the lettering, because a mistake would have been relatively catastrophic. Letter was the last thing I did, and a mistake in lettering was not always easy to fix even with white-out.
But I did not pencil in guide lines to help straighten out the lines of text. It’s silly, but I just never thought of it. In the past twenty years, I have learned more about the process that professional artists use, and it all seems so elementary now. But back then, I was making most of it up as I went along. I should have tried to do better with the lettering.
You see a few problems in the lettering here, from obvious coverups to misalignment. Sorry.
