I Made a Brother in Pizza During the Solar Eclipse
When you live in the middle of West Virginia, you get used to the idea that you’re going to have to drive for at least an hour to get anywhere. It makes it complicated to get basic services sometimes. If I had a medical emergency, for example, I could go to a few places that are only 40 minutes away, where I could expect to have about a 50/50 chance of dying, or I could drive an hour to UHC in Bridgeport, where my survival would be somewhat more assured.
I am preparing to move out of the house I have lived in for the last 9 years. It’s a dump, and I won’t miss it. One of the reasons I haven’t moved out already is that it is impossible to find adequate housing to buy or lease near my workplace.
Some of the people I work with choose to live further out. I could have done that, but then I would have to contend with winding roads, rockslides, and kamikaze deer, and that just doesn’t work for me. Some of my colleagues have actually lived out of state, which amazes me.
I decided that it would be a good idea to put my things in storage, because I don’t know where I’m going to be living for the next few months. My options were pretty wild. There are hundreds of mom-and-pop storage businesses in and around Glenville, but none of them have offices. I would have to call a phone number. And then I would have to come…
