Just like any tool, the Internet can be used appropriately or misused. Students can find it hard to resist the temptation to seek an easy answer, and, just as you say, students are less likely to read fully and carefully. I find that more and more students are using information inappropriately, and it's a struggle to get them to change their habits, because many of their classes reward them for this approach. But I also want to point out the tremendous advantages of having access to the Internet, because that should be part of the equation. It can facilitate communication and provide instantaneous knowledge on nearly any subject. It's definitely a net benefit. I just wish more teachers taught how to use it appropriately earlier.
